Her Holiness Geeta Iyengar was born in 1944 into the abode of yoga, as the eldest daughter of the venerable master and founder of the renowned Iyengar yoga method, Yogacharya Sri B.K.S Iyengar. Introduced into the world of yoga from an early age, Geeta Iyengar is adept in yoga practices and is described as “the world’s leading female yoga teacher”. After graduating from high school in 1961, she began substituting for her father when he was away on international teaching tours. Today she is the co – director of the renowned school of yoga, the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI). She is spearheading the activities of the institute along with her brother Sri Prashant S. Iyengar as well as undertaking her own international teaching tours. She has adapted and modified yoga to the specific requirements of women. Specific asanas, pranayama, and sequences are given for different stages in a woman’s life including menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause. Her Holiness Geeta Iyengar explains the application and benefits of yoga in various levels of body, mind, and soul. She is a renowned teacher who has trained thousands of yoga enthusiasts from around the world. We find it a blessing to have her in the first International Festival of Yogic Heritage.
